Gianluigi Simonetti

Gianluigi Simonetti

From the history of contemporary Italian literature to literary theory, philology and new media, with a special focus on pop songs understood as “poetry for the masses”, Gianluigi Simonetti’s (Potenza, 1973) academic career is a rich intertwining of places and fields. He studied in Pisa and Paris, via Rome and L’Aquila, and was a professor at the Universities of Helsinki, Chicago and Brussels, until his current position at the University of Lausanne. A passionate scholar of modern and postmodern novels, he covers literary news in "Il Sole 24 Ore", "La Stampa" and "il manifesto". His latest book is Caccia allo Strega. Anatomia di un premio letterario (nottetempo, 2023), in which a sharp synthesis of contemporary cultural trends is drawn from the style and thematic constants of the finalist books of the most prestigious Italian literary award.
