Guido Barbujani
Geneticist and writer Guido Barbujani explains that he follows strict nationalist and genre criteria in his library: fiction with fiction, Italian authors with Italians, etc. - a desirable fragmentation in the literary sphere but firmly disavowed when applied to biology. A Ferrara University lecturer specialising in population genetics and evolutionary biology, his essays and novels demonstrate the flaws and contradictions of classifying humanity into races: L’invenzione delle razze (Bompiani, 2006) and Sono razzista, ma sto cercando di smettere (Laterza, 2008). He wrote about mankind’s great adventure in Il giro del mondo in sei milioni di anni (Mulino, 2008) and Come eravamo (Laterza, 2022), under translation with Bertelsmann Verlag. Latest work translated to German: Die Erfindung der Rassen (Verlagshaus Jacoby & Stuart, 2021).
