"A classic is a book that has never finished saying what it has to say," as the quote from Calvino reminds us. Perhaps this is also why Alessandro D'Avenia has delved deeply into an ancient classic, Homer’s Odyssey, in his recent work Resisti, cuore. L'Odissea e l'arte di essere mortali. A (re)discovery that, for the author, is ongoing and evolves daily through his engagement with students, who might either be inspired by or detached from the ‘canon’. A discussion on the role of classics in the literary and cultural landscape: are they lost or rediscovered?
