Cultural collaboration, one of the pillars of the Italian-German Action Plan

The meeting between Gennaro Sangiuliano, Italian Minister of Culture, and Hans-Dieter Lucas, German Ambassador in Rome, was an opportunity to underline the strong development of cultural relations between Italy and Germany.

During this meeting, the project which will see Italy participate as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2024 was also discussed. Minister Sangiuliano confirmed that the Italian government attaches great importance to this participation and welcomed the work of Extraordinary Commissioner Mauro Mazza who, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, is actively involved in the preparation of the Italian Pavilion and in the creation of a rich and extensive calendar of events, with Italian authors to represent the Italian culture and bring it closer to the German public.

Among the next stages of the project will be the participation in the next Turin Book Fair in May 2024, which will put German-language literature in the spotlight.

Italy Guest of Honour 1988-2024: A Journey Through Time

The year was 1988. The Frankfurt Book Fair was set to introduce the innovative concept of the "Guest of Honour Country", an initiative created to make the event more dynamic and engaging, extending its impact beyond the confines of the exhibition halls, and inviting the entire city to participate in a series of events that aimed to engage a broader audience than industry professionals alone.
