Paolo Rumiz
Paolo Rumiz (Trieste, 1947) explores lands and identities deserted by mass tourism. He owes his distinctive style to his birthplace - on one of Europe's most mobile borders - and to his dream of moving beyond it. He reads maps and books with equal eagerness, and considers shoes as important as a notebook for the purpose of storytelling. As a journalist, he followed the collapse of the Iron Curtain, the Yugoslavian conflict, the emergence of populism, the start of the war in Afghanistan and the weakening of Europe in the face of migration. He also relaunched the literary supplement of "la Repubblica" in the form of travel stories. He hates planes and his adventures are an invitation to slow and conscious travel. Among his latest works are: Il veliero sul tetto (2020), Canto per Europa (2021), Una voce dal profondo (2023) and Verranno di notte (2024) all edited by Feltrinelli. Latest work translated to German: Europa ein Gesang (Folio, 2023).
