Giuseppe Conte
Born in Liguria in 1945, Giuseppe Conte has journeyed through the last 50 years as poet, storyteller, essay writer and traveller, focusing on themes of myth, nature and eros. His 1983 debut collection of poems The Ocean and the Boy was immediately translated in France and the USA with an introduction by Italo Calvino. He has published novels, from Primavera Incendiata (Feltrinelli, 1980) to Dante in Love (Giunti, 2021). Ferite e rifioriture (Mondadori), won the 2006 Viareggio Award. His poems are compiled in Oscar Poetry 1983-2015 (Mondadori). Conte has given readings and lectures in 33 countries worldwide, and his books are translated into French, English, Russian, Greek, Turkish, Arabic, Vietnamese and others. His latest are Il mito greco e la manutenzione dell’anima (Giunti, 2021) and Nessuno può uccidere Medusa (Bompiani, 2024).
