Between Naples and Europe: Celebrating the 800th Anniversary of Università di Napoli Federico II
Content
On 5 June 1224, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Sicily Frederick II sent a letter from Syracuse designating Naples as the seat of the kingdom's ‘studium generale.’ This was 800 years ago, and the result was the establishment of the world's first secular and state university which remains one of the largest in Europe today. In Frankfurt, not far from historic Swabia, the ancestral realm of Frederick II's dynasty, a celebration will be held to mark the notable anniversary of the Neapolitan university. This international event will feature a dialogue between Matteo Lorito, Rector of Federico II, and Enrico Schleiff, President of Goethe University Frankfurt.
