Claudia Durastanti

Claudia Durastanti’s voice is her own and the one she gives to others. In the first case, as an author in Italy and abroad, where she has published stories in various magazines; in the second case, as a translator – to whom we owe the Italian version of Ocean Vuong’s On Earth We‘re Briefly Gorgeous – and editorial curator at La Tartaruga. Born in Brooklyn in 1984 to parents who were unable to use their own voices (both her mother and father were deaf, and she writes about them in Strangers I Know (Fitzcarraldo Editions, 2022), she was a Strega Prize finalist and awarded the prize for the ‘Off’ section). In March 2024, she reappeared on the shelves with Missitalia (La nave di Teseo), which is now being translated in several countries, including Germany. Latest work translated to German Die Fremde (Paul Zsolnay, 2021).
