Thinking of Moving to Berlin?
Numerous Italian writers have not only contemplated such a move but have also embraced it and portrayed it in their works. One such author is Andrea Bajani, a finalist for the Strega and Campiello prizes in 2021 with his novel Il libro delle case. For him, the German capital - where he resided until a decade ago - served as a pivotal chapter in his journey as an expatriate author, eventually guiding him to America. Another is Mario Desiati, who not only lived in Berlin but also set part of his novel Spatriati, which won the Strega Prize in 2022, in the city. From the first steps taken in the city, through varying lengths of stay, to the final farewell, intimate secrets and literary curiosities of the "metropolis" with a unique allure, as experienced by those who have, at least once in their lives, encountered it.
