Dacia Maraini

Novelist, poet, essay writer and playwright, her work is a sym - phony of genres and inspirations. She draws on historiography (La lunga vita di Marianna Ucria; Rizzoli, 1990, Campiello Prize) and her personal life (Bagheria; Rizzoli, 1993), explores the detective novel (Voices; Serpent‘s Tail, 1997), writes short stories Buio; Rizzoli, 1990, Strega Prize) and theatre plays. Much of her work has been translated into German since 1963, with Zeit des Unbehagens (Rowohlt). A columnist for "Corriere della Sera", she explores and describes our times with lucidity, often dealing with education and women’s issues. Her latest titles include Caro Pier Paolo (Neri Pozza, 2022), In nome di Ipazia (Solferino, 2023) and Vita mia (Rizzoli, 2023), reliving her imprisonment in Japan. Latest work translated to German: Tage im August (Folio, 2024).
